| FAVORITE TREES PALO SANTO Known in Spanish as palo santo meaning "holy wood". The bursera graveolens, is a wild tree native that inhabits most of South America, such as Mexico, northern Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and the Brazilian Mato Grosso, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and on the Galápagos Islands. The tree belongs to the same family (Burseraceae) as frankincense and myrrh. It is widely used in folk medicine for stomach ache, as sudorific, and as liniment for rheumatism. It has been used for centuries by indigenous Amazonians to ward off evil spirits. We here at Treepliciti love it for the sweet, earthy smell and the way it clears the air! |
